Lettuce Poricha Kootu

Ingredients:

  • 1 packet of shredded Iceberg lettuce
  • 1 cup of Toordal
  • 1 teaspoon of Turmeric powder
  • Small pinch of Asafoetida
  • Salt as required

For Seasoning:

  • 1/2 teaspoon of oil 
  • little mustard seeds
  • 1 teaspoon of uradh dal

For grinding:

  •  1 teaspoon of oil
  • 2 teaspoon of uradhdal
  • 3 teaspoon of coriander powder
  • 5 Redchillies
  • 1/2 teaspoon of fresh ground pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon of cumin seeds 
  • 4 tablespoon of shredded coconut

Procedure:

  1. Cook toor dal in a pressure cooker up to 3 whistle and keep it aside.
  2. Take a pan add oil, mustard seeds and allow it to splutter and fry uradhdal to it.
  3. Add lettuce with little water and let it boil till it is fully cooked.
    Add turmeric powder, asafoetida, cooked toordal and salt to it.
  4. Take another pan add oil and then add urad dhal to it till it becomes brown and add pepper, redchillies, cumin seeds, coriander powder and finally coconut to it. Let it cool down for 3 to 5 minutes.
  5.  Grind it in to paste with a food processor or mixie.
  6. Mix the paste in to the lettuce and allow it to boil for 5 minutes.
  7. Finally garnish with coriander leaves and curry leaves.

Note:

  • It can be served with Rice and  Rasam.
